Mouthguards

Who should wear a mouthguard?

Anyone participating in a sport that contains a chance of injury to teeth, jaws, or oral soft tissues, or which shows a potential risk of concussion could benefit from the use of a mouthguard. In general, anyone participating in a contact or collision sport should use a properly fitted and properly worn mouthguard. Participants in an indivudial sport, such as rollerblading or skateboarding, should also use a mouthguard.

Dr Howarth is a fellow in the Academy for Sports Dentistry and Member of the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey. He provides multi-laminated custom mouth guards which provide the best protection from injury.

When properly fitted, mouthguards should provide the ultimate protection for the athlete with no hinderence to performance.
